Germany to continue to support Ethiopia's development activities: Delegation

Addis Ababa October 04/2012 Germany will continue to support Ethiopia's efforts in renewable energy development, education and realization of MDGs, German Parliamentary delegation said. After discussing with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn here on Thursday delegation head, Dagmar Wehrl said Germany will also support Ethiopia's good governance and democracy building activities.

She said it is Germany’s wish that Ethiopia will strengthen its peace building activities in the Horn of Africa. PM Hailemariam on his part asked Germany to strengthen the support to the renewable energy and green economy development activities of Ethiopia. The delegation is here to visit the development projects being undertaken with the support of German Government from 2 to 6 October 2012.

PM Hailemariam hold talks with Russian President Special Representative

Addis Ababa October 04/2012 Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn here on Thursday held talks with Special Representative of the President of Russian Federation on Cooperation with African Countries, Mikhail V. Margelov.

The PM on the occasion said Ethiopia is keen to further strengthen the existing bilateral relation with Russian Federation. He said it is Ethiopia’s desire that the cooperation with Russia will be mainly on trade, investment, railway construction, human resource development and mining among others.

Ambassador Girma Birru Presents Credentials to Governor  General of Canada,

The newly appointed Ethiopian  Ambassador to Canada Ambassadordesignate Girma Birru presented his credentials to His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, to-day, at the official residence at the Citadelle of Québec.

According to a news release obtained from the Chancery of the Ethiopian embassy in Washington DC, Ambassador Girma Birru, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the US and non-resident Ambassador to Mexico underlined the existing prevalent ties between Ethiopia and Canada and pledged to further bolster the relations during his Ambassadorial ship.

Haile-Mariam swore-in as Prime Minister

Addis Ababa September 21/2012 Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Haile-Mariam Dessalegn swore-in- as Prime Minister at the 4th year tenure extraordinary session of the parliament here on Friday. Addressing the parliament after taking oath the premier said he would cement the ongoing over all activities with government and people of Ethiopia that was firmly built by the late PM Meles Zenawi.

He said he would follow collective leadership and mobilize public resources to address basic problems and challenge of the country in the years to come. Haile-Mariam said he would intensify efforts to make educated farmers that would easily acquaint with modern agriculture technologies. The premier said expansion of basin development will continue to be priority area to ensure sustainable agricultural development. He noted higher learning institutions and professional associations should play indispensable roles in policy research.

Haile-Mariam He said utmost effort would be exerted to execute the ongoing housing and transport problems and roads and railways construction as per the schedule. The premier said measure would be taken to make the local trade system effect and reduce inflation.
